For its 20th anniversary season of their free summertime music series, Sunset Concerts, The Skirball Cultural Center continues to feature an eclectic mix of traditions and styles. Last night was no exception. Brooklyn-based Sinkane, the talented multi-instrumentalist, brought a transfixing afro-punk sound that defied any conventional genre definition with influences from krautrock, bluegrass, funk rock, and Sudanense pop. The band intuitively bended and swayed in what seemed like freeform motion with him as he moved from keyboard, to guitar, to mic and back again.

The event included the Annenberg's Refugee photo exhibit and a musical lineup of Classixx, Brazilian Girls and Senegalese veteran Baaba Maal.

At almost a century old the Bowl has hosted just about every major artist you can imagine, so what better place to send off a Reggae legend.
